Phil Tammen's 65 inch Elder 40 has been a regular flyer at the CMAC field lately. It was built from a Top Flite kit first produced in the 80s. It's vintage rag
and tube style appearance makes it interesting, though he notes it isn't scale (which probably make it easier to fly than any equivalent scale subject). The
engine is an Austrian built Hirtenberger 40 which is an unusual type of four stroke employing a rotary valve. Phil has been using the model to practice his
tail-dragger take-offs and landings.
